In recent test series, the New Zealand cricket team has acquitted itself admirably. But, in an interview in the latest issue of “Australian Cricket,” three experts — Ray Steele, Richie Benaud and John Thicknesse — all rats New Zealand lowest on the list of test-plaving countries. This situation seems sure to continue as long as we give our first-class players so little play — five matches crammed into a few weeks each January. What plans has the New Zealand Cricket Council to extend this programme to give New Zealanders much more first-class experience and so make them realistic comoetitors on the world cricket scene? — M.
