GRANTS TO PLUNKET
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. Government grants of $1,171,000 to the Plunket Society this financial year included a special grant over and above the normal private hospital benefits for Karitane hospitals, said the Minister of Health (Mr Adams-Schneider) this evening.
He told the society’s annual conference in Wellington that this amount included a special grant of $59,000 to cover the deficit at March 31, 1972, arising out of increased costs at the hospitals, including increased salaries for nurses.
“A further grant to cover the deficit for the current financial year has been approved,” the Minister said. This was estimated at $BO,OOO.
