JOINT APPEAL

A joint appeal is being launched by the New Zealand Red Cross Society and C.0.R.5.0. for funds to provide relief for victims of the hurricane which devastated Fiji last week. “To be known as the Hurricane Bebe Appeal, it is being launched by' C.0.R.5.0. in conjunction with the Red Cross on behalf of the constituent organisations of C.0.R.5.0.,” said the area organiser (Mr R. A. Consedine) yesterday. “There are 57 organisations affiliated to C.0.R.5.0.” The focus of the appeal will be a national day for fund-raising on November 17. The national executive of C.0.R.5.0. called a special meeting with representatives from the Red Cross and other organisations interested in financing relief for hurricane victims, and it is expected that a joint committee will be formed to co-ordinate relief activities.

Dr Hari Naidu, an assistant secretary in the Fijian Ministry of Commerce,

Industry and Co-operatives in Suva, gave the meeting a detailed report on relief needs.
