Mixed trading continues on Australian markets

Falls outnumbered rises in quiet trading on Australian exchanges yesterday. The mining sector was generally weaker, industrials were mixed, and oils tended easier.

Poseidon fell 70c to 1010 c after news that the company was to abandon its joint venture agreement with the United States consortium, Union-Hanna-Homestake. M.I.M. fell 10c at 300 c, after the chairman’s statement that unless there was a marked improvement in economic factors, M.l.M.’s profit would not exceed last year’s figures. W.M.C. fell 7c at 305 c, Bougainville was down 6c at 24c and Hamersley fell 5c to 275 c. Stocks and Holdings jumped 46c to 796 c after the annual meeting, but B.H.P. fell 5c to 1095 c. A. V. Wehl was pushed 55c higher to 295 c on news of a bonus issue, but McEwans fell 20c to 760 c after its annual meeting.
