LEADERS GIVE SHAREMARKET A FIRMER TONE
Falls shaded rises on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, but market leaders showed strength, and over all the market had a tn met tone. Price movements were generally small, and trading moderate!, active, with turnovers little changed compared with Monday.
Insurances were firm, as were frozen meats and finance companies, however,
there were some mixed i movements. Capital Life j eased Ic, CFM and Swift lost ■2c each, and Broadlands new sold 2c lower although the j shares put on 1c to 125 c. Freightways shares firmed 2c to 262 c, but the rights lost 13c to 107 c. Ballins gained 2c to 164 c and the contributings rose also 2c, to 112 c. Lane Walker Rudkin recovered 2c, but ;Trans Holdings, Smiths City Market, and Buntings were RISES
easier. T. J. Edmonds fell Sc to 280 c, in spite of a good half-yearly report by the directors yesterday. Teltherm new shares reacted to the good interim reiport with a rise of 3c to 178 c. I U.E.8., Wattie. N.Z.T s. IN.Z.M.C.. and Golden Bay were easier among leaders All other market sectors were mixed, without pattern.
