Mount Herbert objectives

While the Mount Herbert County Council’s statement of its planning objectives indicated its aspirations on development and landscaping in the county, it did not indicate how this was to be achieved, said the chairman (Mr D. B. Rich),in a report to the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority yesterday. Thus, it was possible for scattered housing to emerge in the form of partly urban development, and partly farm subdivision development, said Mr Rich. The authority would be well advised to assume an undesirable development occurring unless policy was very clear on how to prevent it. Mr Rich pointed out that the authority was not in a position to require consultations with the council, but it was agreed that he and the Director of Planning (Mr C. B. Millar) should try to arrange for discussions with the council.
