Games body to continue

At its annual meeting last evening, Commonwealth Games Promotion (N.Z.), the society which worked and won for Christchurch the 1974 Games, affirmed the decision it made last year to stay in existence until after the Games have been held. The chairman (Mr A. I. Cottrell) said that nothing much had happened in the society in the last year and that there might not be any more activity in the future. “But who can say what the future will bring in regard to amateur sport, and I firmly believe that this society might have a part to play in the future of amateur sport.” Mr Cottrell said that the majority of the senior members of the society were involved in the work of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee. Another reason for the society to continue, said Mr Cottrell, was to protect the rights of its members, who have been guaranteed preferential bookings for the Games. The society’s officers were re-elected en bloc, the only addition being the election of Mr A. Hall to the executive, which now numbers 19.
