Industrial Relations Bill

Sir,—The pathetic delusions about our system under which “P.J.S.” labours may be excused in the Prime Minister’s election manifesto, but it is incredible that any one should take them seriously. Ours is a class-riven society of workers and capitalists, the latter firmly holding the reins of political and economic power. The worker has only his trade union organisation to protect his interests. Inflation is a nonstop, day-and-night attack on his living standards. To disarm the workers economically, this avowedly privateenterprise Government legislates a wage-freeze, policed by a watch-dog Remuneration Authority. The Industrial Relations Bill seeks to disarm the organised workers politically, and with that breathtaking hypocrisy which is a hallmark of this Government, it claims that it aims to compel the trade unions to concentrate on their economic functions, of which it is the purpose of the Remuneration Authority to. deprive them. —Yours, etc., M.C.H. October 31, 1972.
