Fires from welding
Sparks from welding torches had been the cause of five fires last month, and it appeared that there was a need for some enforceable regulations on the handling of welding equipment, Mr D. J. Kelleher said at the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board’s meeting yesterday. Persons using welding equipment should take certain precautions, Mr Kelleher said. At present there was a code of practice on standards, (but nothing that laid down [safety precautions. However, ■ there was a need for some research and the matter was a national one.
■ The board agreed that its (Chief Fire Officer (Mr F. A. Hardy) should inquire about the position.
