‘The Boy Friend’ at Rangiora
“The Boy Friend,’’] Sandy Wilson’s perennially popular musical set in a girls’ finishing) school in France in the 1920 s (and recently filmed with the model, Twiggy, in the main role), is being produced by the Rangiora Musical Society. It will open in the I Rangiora Town Hall with a: matinee performance on I Sunday, and will continue on j Monday and Tuesday even-] ings. The producer is Dennis Lane, who played the bond-: servant, Alexander, in thesociety’s last production, | “The New Moon,” and the | musical director is Judy Bellingham, of Christchurch. 1 The production is described as a colourful one, and the society is aiming at authenticity in all its props. I To help it towards this end, I Lane, Walker, Rudkin, Ltd, I has lent the society some 119205-style bathing costumes.
i There is a cast of 40, led Iby Glenda Allin and John i Clarke, as Polly Browne and ‘Tony Brockhurst. Other principals include i Madame Dubonnet and her 'old flame, Percival Browne, ] played by Diane Purkis and | Barrie Purkis. Hortense, the •school’s French maid, is played by Karin Reid. Maisie (Judith Benseman), [Alphonse (Albert Kwok), i Dulcie (Glennis Lane), Bobby van Husen (Dennis Lane). Fay (Maria Bemelman), ' Marcel (Hugh Neeson), i Nancy (Marie McLoughlin), i Pierre (John Finnie), Lord i Brockhurst (Peter Sadler), ' Lady Brockhurst (Fran Manahi), and the Gendarmes [(Ron Holdaway and Des J Crampton) complete the [principal roles. A dance routine in act [[three will be performed by Campbell and Adair Botting. The piano accompanist will be Margaret Wilson, the II society’s accompanist for the [last two years.
