Changes in fees
Doctors’ fees will be adjusted tomorrow to come into line with the increase in the medical services benefits announced recently. This will (mean a reduction in charges I to most persons getting medical advice, particularly those [with young children needing medical attention.
| The press liaison officer of [the Canterbury division of the Medical Associaiton of New Zealand (Dr B. Heyward) said yesterday that the benefit rate to doctors under the new schedule had increased from 75c to $1.25 for general medical services. Children under nine had been included in the higher benefit—previously applicable only to pensioners and other social security beneficiaries—which itself had risen from $1.50 to $2. An entirely new category,' an immunisation benefit, has been included in the schedule to cover the full cost of routine immunisation of children and adolescents up to the age of 16. This would cover ; standard vaccinations such as ! those for poliomyelitis and tetanus, said Dr Heyward. i The extra benefit for urgent attendances has been increased from 50c to 75c,
