Pilots’ poll

(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Oct. 30.

The British pilots’ union 8.A.L.P.A., is today organising a referendum of its 5000 members to find out what action they are willing to take against hijackers.

A spokesman for the union said last night that the referendum would ask the pilots “whether they will support a world-wide strike, or alternatively impose bans against countries which harbour hijackers and people who perpetrate crimes of violence in the air.”

The spokesman, Mr Gordon Hurley, said that the result would be known in about two weeks and would be presented to the International Federation of Airline Pilots’ (1.F.A.L.P.) when it met in Mexico in December.

Mr Hurley said it was felt that the boycotts would be more effective than a worldwide strike, although because of retaliation they could be more expensive.
