Forger for sentence

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 29.

A man who flew to Australia after forging a Department of Justice letter of credit and introduction was on Friday committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on 10 charges. Alexander Michael St Cloud, aged 26, an unemployed artist, admitted five charges of burglary, one of obtaining credit by fraud, one of uttering, one of forgery, one of false pretences, one of assaulting a constable and one of escaping from police custody.

It was said that some of the offences were committed in the Magistrate’s Court where St Cloud had hidden after escaping from the custody of the police. “By reason of the nature of the charges and the gravity of the offences, and the fact that some of them relate to this Court and a brother magistrate, I think I should decline jurisdiction,” said Mr A. A. Coates, S.M.

On the charge of assaulting a constable—a summary one —St Cloud was sentenced to two months imprisonment.
