Two small boys drowned
Two small boys were drowned in separate accidents in the Christchurch area yesterday.
A boy aged three died in the Waimakariri River yesterday afternoon after he disappeared while on a family picnic at Coutts Island, and a boy aged two and a half drowned after he wandered from his horns and fell into the Heathcote River yesterday morning.
The boy drowned in the Waimakariri River was
Scott Logan, son of Mr A. L. Logan, 96 Daniels Road, Redwood.
The child disappeared about 3.30 p.m. while playing in sand near the edge of the swift-flowing river. While a search was being mounted 1
for him at Coutts Island, he was found in the water by a doctor who was jet-boating on the river. The doctor took the boy to the Christchurch Hospital. The boy drowned in the Heathcote River was
Darren John O’Malley, son of Mr J. S. O’Malley. 17 Sandwich Road, Beckenham.
The child is believed to have fallen into the river after slipping through a gap in a fence and toddling off about 10.30 a.m. He was found by his father a few minutes later floating face down in the river near Mal'colm Avenue.
