Big shipment of mail
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Oct. 29. The recent dock strike in Britain caught up with Auckland Post Office staff yesterday with a vengeance. An 8000-bag shipment— a record for non-Christmas mail—arrived on Tuesday on board the merchant ship Otaio, the first ship to reach New Zealand since the strike. About 3000 bags had been cleared by yesterday morning. The remaining 5000 should be cleared by Wednesday. Another ship, the Woolger, is due from Britain with 2000 bags later, and two further ships with heavy consignments of mail are expected after that.
