First salmon of season?
A Riccarton man, Mr R. Holmes, of Yaldhurst Road, while whitebaiting in the Waimakariri River near Kairaki, last week, has claimed the first sighting of a salmon this season.
It was close inshore, and looked to weigh about 251 b to 301 b. About an hour previously, he said, a fisherman had his gear and rod broken by something “really big.”
