BIG TUNA CATCHES
Japanese m N.Z. waters fW.Z. Preu Auociation) WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. New Zealand waters provided some of the best fishing in the Pacific for tuna and southern bluefin, which made up 8 per cent of the world wide catch for Japanese fishing boats, said Dr A. Suda, a representative at the fifteenth session of the IndoPacific Fishing Council. Dr Suda is from the Far Seas Fisheries Research Institute at Osaka. He said Japan would have to rely on its far seas fisheries for some time and that Japanese boats would be seen off the New Zealand coast for some time yet.
Fish production had not increased dramatically during the last years and the expected swing on the part of Japanese people to meat and dairy sources of protein had not taken place.
