Site for home
A site on Stanmore Road, near Haast Street, has been offered to the Aged People’s Welfare Council by the Christchurch City Council for the rebuilding of Langford House, which has to be demolished to make way for the proposed motorway. Langford House, which is situated on the corner of Durham and Battersea streets, is one of two homes for the elderly run by the Christchurch Aged People's Welfare Council.
Mrs D. L. Stevens, the acting secretary of the council said yesterday that the membeis were very pleased with the offer and were considering buying the property. “Although the City Council has told us that we do not have to vacate our present site until 1985, we do not want to have to wait that long to find a site, and a deci'ion regarding the sale of the site should be made very soon,” said Mrs Stevens.
