About 18,500 British Asians expelled from Uganda have reached Britain and another 4000 to 5000 are expected, according to a report tabled in Parliament yesterday. India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh were admitting all their own citiizens forced to leave Uganda, while also allowing initially for British pasport-holders. Over 2000 in this latter category had so far arrived, said the report. Of Commonwealth countries offering assistance, Canada was prepared to admit 5000 to 6000 refugees: Malawi 500 to 1000, New Zealand 200. Fiji 10 families, and small numbers to Guyana and Mauritius.
There was no exact figure for Australia, but about 300 visas had been issued already.
