Area plan deputation
The Local Government Commission will not ! consider the proposed amalgamation of the Akaroa, Mount Herbert, Paparua and Heathcote counties until it has disposed of objections tof its wider scheme for the reorganisation of local government in North Canterbury. The commission, in a letter received by the Heathcote County Council at its meeting last evening, said it felt that it was precluded from considering a local scheme until a final area scheme was in force.
The council agreed that it wished to continue with ! the proposal, and decided to send a deputation to Wellington to wait on the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall), the Minister of Local Government (Mr Highet), the Minister of Works (Mr Allen), the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk), and Mr T. M. McGuigan, the member of Parliament for Lyttelton.
