Award to scientist
Mr M. Driver, a potato research scientist with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research’s Crop Research Division in Christchurch, has won the Institute of Food Science Technology’s J. C. Andrews memorial award for distinction in and personal contribution to food science in New Zealand. It is the first time the award has been made to a member of the institute’s Canterbury branch. The medallion award was presented to Mr Driver by Mrs J. C. Andrews at a ceremony last evening.
Mr Driver is an acknowledged expert in the field of potato growing and the vegetable’s use in the food industry. He presented a paper on the subject in May to the New Zealand and Australian food technology conference at Surfers Paradise.
