RHODESIA DEBATE

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

NEW YORK, Sept. 28.

The United Nations Security Council is due to resume its debate this afternoon (5 a.m. Friday, New Zealand time) on the Rhodesia issue.

A number of African delegates were heard yesterday, but no new ideas emerged.

Informed sources say that Somalia, Sudan and Guinea, the council’s three African members, will submit two resolutions on the political and economic aspects of the Rhodesia problem.

Their principal aim is said to be the reaffirmation and reinforcement of economic sanctions against the breakaway Smith regime. The Somali Ambassador (Mr Abdul Rahim Abby Farah), who is the chief African strategist, said that week-end meetings of the Council are proposed, to force the issue to a conclusion.
