Children found
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Sept. 28
Two children who disappeared from their Avondale home more than a year ago have been found safe and well in Brisbane. The children, Sharleen Anne Johnston, aged 14, and her brother, Allan James Johnston. 13, will be flown back to Auckland tomorrow to their father, Mr J. H. Johnston.
Mr Johnston said today he had been delighted to hear from the police that the children were safe. "I had my doubts that 1 would see them again.” he said.
Inquiries were made throughout New Zealand when the children were missing. The police later confirmed they had flown to Australia with a woman. Senior Sergeant Dorothy Parkes, of the Auckland police, flew to Brisbane yesterday to arrange extradition proceedings against a woman.
In December, 1964, a woman was extradited from Australia to face charges of unlawfully taking the children with intent to deprive Mr Johnston of possession. She was convicted and fined $BO.
