Investor reaction
British investors apparently adopted a “wait and see” policy with regard to Australian shares after extremely dull trading in the aftermath of Mr McMahon’s statement on foreign investment. Most established issues lost between 10c and 20c. One trader said that it appeared Australian issues now faced more international competition and, while it was too early to say a trend had developed, there was a feeling that some Australian issues were over-valued.
