Lord Nelson lands plunge

Lord Nelson, drew first blood of the spring for the New Zealand “invaders* when he landed a spectacular betting plunge In winning the Desborough Welter (one mile) at Caulfield yesterday. Confidently ridden by the fromer Queensland jockey, L. Hill, Lord Nelson, after firming from 14 to 1 to 6 to 1, won comfortably from Chiming and the favourite. All Shot, which carried the steadier of 10-12.
Lord Nelson (My Pal—United Princess) was having only his third start since arriving in Melbourne from New Zealand.
Earlier in the day, the New Zealand stayer. Hay Burner, showed improved form to finish fourth to willow Prince in the Metropolitan Handicap (12 furlongs).
