Letters on television topics are subject to the rules applying to general correspondence. “Coronation Street” As three coyly anonymous critics of mine have themselves “rushed into print” may I answer them—politely? Like “New Zealander” I too enjoy New Zealand programmes, but in light entertainment there are too few
of them as yet, and there- i fore the N.Z.B.C. must, pre- i sumably, have to draw on i other countries for plays, i etc. “N.Z.B.C. Fan” is absurd 1 in suggesting that I am either i intolerant or abusive. I just I said that I liked “Coronation ■ Street” myself for the rea- 1 sons I mentioned. To “C.1.M.” i I would reply that “pawky” •
means “drily”—with a dash of slyness—and it is precisely the term I would use to describe New Zealand humour. All these people exhibit prejudice if not hostility against a country from which they derive their language, their judiciary and many of their habits. Why? —I. TREW.
