Zulu rivals in street battle
(N.Z. Press > JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 27. Five men were wounded by shots during a Zulu battle across a busy Johannesburg street on Monday. About 120 men, armed with guns, assegais, pangas, knobkerries and iron bars, clashed for more than an hour before the police arrived. Eye-witnesses say that 60 Zulus from a general wholesaler’s firm were drawn up “in battle formation” against 60 employees of a meat wholesaler. It is understood that the battle was the latest eruption in a long standing feud between two rival Zulu factions from the Ladysmith area of Natal.
