An Auckland man has Invented an aircraft performance calculator which might well make the work of commercial jet pilots much easier, the Press Association reports. Instead of wading through a thick performance manual on the flight deck, a pilot using the Dunn engine computer merely reads the information off a simple circular slide rule. The calculator was invented by the Air New Zealand technical research and analysis manager, Mr W. H. Dunn, who ha s applied for United States patents. A calculator worked out for the DCIO Series 10 is now under trial in the United States.

The Dunn engine computer, at 4joz, replaces a 6jib manual. The calculator is used in conjunc-

tion with several simple single-page graphs. Air New Zealand takes delivery of its first DCIO Series 30 in January, and Mr Dunn will adapt his calculator for that model. Apart from mathematics, little more would be needed, he said. Its value cannot be estimated easily—it can be adapted for use in any turbine-powered aircraft in the world.
