QUICK CHANGE
One of the most entertaining features of the show promises to be the Toyota pitstop contest in which a large number of teams have entered in the hope of winning a free trip to Melbourne. For those who think it is pretty good going to change a wheel in half an hour it will be a revelation to see just how fast four wheels, spark plugs and air cleaner can be changed and the oil checked. Heats and finals will be run each night during the show with the semi-finals and the final being run on the last night of the show, Saturday, October 7. The winning team will receive cash and accessory prizes plus the return air fare to Auckland to compete in the grand final. The winners of this will receive a return trip flying Air New Zealand to Melbourne where they will be able to attend the Tasman series. The teams must consist of two persons, either male or female, and they will work on Toyota cars similar to
the successful Toyota rally team cars. The competitors will have to carry out the following tasks:—(1) Start timing device. (2) Remove all five wheels using the tools and jack supplied with the car. (3) Replace all five wheels with those supplied. (4) Remove all four spark plugs using tools with the car. (5) Replace all spark plugs with those supplied. (6) Check oil level, clean dipstick. (7) Remove air cleaner and replace. (8) Replace all tools and equipment in their proper places in the car and on the bench. (9) When team members are behind pit counter and all tasks completed, stop the timing device. Penalties will be incurred for such faults as not tightening wheel nuts properly, plug leads off or incorrectly fitted or any tools not returned to their proper position.
