"The Press'* Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Thun worked freely at Awaf»uni yesterday morning and ooks to have done well since his bold second at ?.larton at his last start. Another to please was Purdie, which races at Hastings today. Working on the course proper, Thun and Bleu Streak were not after time in running five furlongs in Imin 3 4-ssec, the last three in 39 2-ssec.
Foreign Aid covered six furlongs strongly in Imin 20sec, the last three in 39 l-ssec. He is engaged at Otaki.
His Bestone shaded Warren’s Joy at the end of half a mile in 52sec, the last three furlongs in 38 3-ssec.
The two-year-olds, Suisen and Perilada. covered three furlongs In 37 2-ssec, a good effort. Salamanca was going nicely alongside Palomaris at the end of half a mile in 51 2-ssec. the last three furlongs in 38 2-ssec. This was the best at the distance yesterday.
On the inside trial, the Otaki runner. Mighty Merit, impressed 1n running seven furlongs in Imin 30J sec. the last three in 39sec.
On the plough. Purdie looked well when running half a mile under a hold in ixlsec. the last three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. He will be hard to beat at Hastings today.
The Otaki sprint runner. Aris♦oc, worked half a mile in 53sec, the last three furlongs in 39 3-5 sec.
Tennis championships. — The Auckland hard court tennis) championships this season have! been brought forward a week to* ensure a satisfactory field. The i tournament will now be held on October 7. 8 and 15. Entries for I the championships close on Octo- • ber 3. at 5 pjn.
