Interest in selected issues in Australia

The demand for selected industrial issues lent some interest to this sector in moderate trading on Australian exchanges yesterday. Oil issues were generally steady, but mining shares eased slightly.

News gained 15c to 360 c after reports of higher profit from News International, E.Z.I. rose 13c to 408 c after its report, and Comalco and Dunlop were also firmer. Frozen Foods fell 10c to 350 c after its directors advised shareholders not to accept the Lifesaver bid because of the possibility of another offer for the capital. The Bank of N.S.W., Phillip Morris, Tooheys, and Henry Jones were easier in Sydney. Consolidated Goldfields and Renison both rose 10c in Sydney, but Bougainville fell 13c to 285 c and C.R.A. 10c to 660 c. N.B.H.C. fell 15c to 350 c and Poseidon fell 20c to 1080 c.
