Russian test reported
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copj right) WASHINGTON, Augv ist 17. Seismic signals, pre: sumably from a Soviet Union underground nuclear ex plosion, have been detected by the United States Atomic Energy Commission.
The signals were < ietected on Tuesday afterno an and originated in Russians Semipalatinsk nuclear testing area.
They corresponded to an underground explosia n in the yield range eqival ent to 20,000 to 200,000 t ons of T.N.T.
A report from th e Seismological Institub a, in Uppsala, Sweden, cot ifirming the time of the ex plosion, says that it registered 1 5.5 on the Richter scale.
