France and Britain have given the go-ahead for final studies, envisaging a stari next year, on the construction of a Channel tunnel. The new phase of study and works will lay the ground technically and financially for definite construction. The French and British private groups backing the tunnel project will carry out the study within the framework of an international convention, to be signed on September 30.
