Women in bars
Sir, —I feel I must answer “Enforcement’s” letter. We are not all to be classed the same as the few cheeky ones. I go into a bar to have a quiet drink and speak to no man I don’t know, pay for my own drinks, and sit quietly. Yet I have been told to go for no reason other than that two barmen working Close together in different hote's, got together and told me to do so, simply because they don’t like me.—Yours, etc., ONE WHO WAS TOLD TO GO. August 17, 1972.
Sir, —Perhaps “Enforcement” would be interested to know the names given to men who accost women in public places. His complaint about women in public bars applies to men in lounge bars. Let women drink in peace, also.—Yours, etc., RE-ENFORCEMENT. August 17, 1972. Sir, —Heavens above! Oh dear! Ho, ho! Ha, ha! Thank you, “Enforcement,” for the best laugh I have had for ages. I would not worry too much about your fatal charm if I were you. Perhaps you could write a book on the secret of your success—- “ How to get accosted by females in bars.” I would certainly buy a copy.—Yours, NO SUCH LUCK. August 17, 1972. Sir, —I am in full agreement with “Enforcement’s” letter. Being a woman and having been connected with hotels, I feel strongly on this matter. The public bars in any hotels, city or country, should be solely for men to be able to enjoy their beer along with their mates, and I say, keep the public bars out of bounds to all females. —Yours, etc., FORMER PROPRIETOR. August 17, 1972. [This correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press.”]
