Parking at Post Office
Sir, —On Sunday about 3 pjn. I went to the Chief Post Office to post mail. 1 found that all the parking spaces for vehicles were filled, most of the vehicles containing youths just sitting there. I had no option but to stop in the roadwav and dash over to the posting boxes; one or two other drivers did likewise, while these sitting louts just laughed. As that particular section is presumably for the use of post office customers, can the authorities tell me why it is
not more rigidly controlled? —Yours, etc., MORE CONTROL NEEDED. August 7, 1972. [Mr A. Goldsmith, superintendent for the Ministry of Transport, replies: “The 10minute parking restriction outside the Post Office is regularly enforced by officers specifically allocated to duties in Cathedral Square. During the 12 months from August 1, 1971, to July 31, 1972, the patrols have operated for 3119 hours reporting 2837 offences and giving assistance to 690 members of the public.”]
