Museum wing tenders
Construction of the Canterbury Museum’s new wing should start as soon as possible next year, the Museum. Trust Board decided yesterday after hearing a report from its building committee.
The committee recommended that tenders be called on or before October 30, and that they should close on December 1. A contract should be let on December 7, the committee suggested. The dates proposed were adopted by the board, which also decided to approach the Christchurch City Council as soon as possible to obtain permission for the builders to use the Botanic Gardens entrance for access to the site of the new wing. Mr P. J. Skellerup said that the gardens were popular until the beginning of March, and this could affect the time when the council would agree to the gardens entrance being used for the construction.
