Swimmers out
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON
Three British swimmers lost their fight to get back into the Olympic Games yesterday after a storm over the alleged taking of drugs.
The Amateur Swimming Association not only refused to bring the three back into the team for Munich, but handed out reprimands to five other members of the Olympic squad.
The affair blew up after a police raid last Friday at the Olympic team's quarters in Coventry. The raid was prompted by an anonymous tip-off that an Olympic girl had been seen smoking cannabis.
The A.S.A. has not given an official reason for the banning.
