Aust. tour party ill
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, August 17. Fifty - nine Australian tourists arrived in Auckland on Monday night, after a bus tour of Northland, suffering from suspected food poisoning.
Eighty-one tourists made the trip in two buses and, on returning to Auckland, 59 were treated by a doctor. Four were admitted to hospital. The deputy medical officer of health for Auckland (Dr T. H. Bierre) said it was not known where the illness was contracted. Although the symptoms had been disturbing, there was no real danger. Dr Bierre said he suspected that the poisoning had been caused by poor food handling. The bus tour had stopped at several places where members of the party had all eaten the same food. The four admitted to hospital had recovered sufficiently on Tuesday to continue on their bus trip.
