First 100 golf entries
The first objective of 100 entries has now been reached in the Museum Golf Classic, and the organiser, Mr C. M. Smith, is “pressing on” for another 100 teams.
This is the event from which the Canterbury Museum extension fund and the Garden City Golf Classic will benefit.
Already a wide section of the community is involved in the tournament. The latest entries give an indication of this.
Among them are teams from the N.Z.8.C., Whitcombe and Tombs, Wyatt and
Wilson, A. M. Satterthwaite and Co., the N.Z. Refrigerating Co., St Andrew’s College and Christchurch Boys’ High School, J. Mercer and Sons, Ltd, and Haywrights, Ltd, which has entered three teams. In addition, the five trading banks in Christchurch, as well as the Canterbury Savings Bank and the Post Office Savings Bank, have entered teams of four. In the completed rounds
returned so far, there have been some excellent individual scores, although even the best of rounds requires support from the other team memberjs. A well-known Christchurch cricketer of a few years ago, S. M. Betty, had a round of 74 at Shirley, and that gave him a net 66 (six under the standard scratch score). A head teacher in Geraldine, B. F. Ferrand, had a score of 85 (net 65, and four under).
