GLOOMY OUTLOOK
Muddy test pitch likely (N.Z. Press Aitociation/ WELLINGTON. The Australian Rugby “rainmakers” are likely to succeed again. Their dismal weather record so far on tour does not look like ending in time for the first test at Athletic Park tomorrow. Cold southerlies and rain are forecast for today and are expected to continue "throughout the week-end.” In spite of the gloomy outlook, both teams trained this morning — the Wallabies before a handful of onlookers on a slippery Athletic Park, and the All Blacks before an enthusiastic 2000 at Williams Jones Park, Wainuiomata. The broad patch between the 25 on the main stand side of Athletic Park was still wet without rain. Any more would make it very muddy.
Two sessions were originally scheduled for the Australians yesterday, but the afternoon practice was called off after a two-hour one in the morning.
The only Wallaby not to train was the 6ft sin lock, G. Fay, who is suffering from a recurrence of a slight back injury. It is not serious. R. W. Fairfax, who had a nagging groin injury, trained foi the first time in a week. The Australian party and the All Blacks were given a Parliamentary reception last night by the Prime Ministei (Mr Marshall).
