Better car-wash
An unusual new automatic car-wash, designed and made in New Zealand, will soon be operating on a chain basis throughout the country. Before the end of this year the car-washes will be working in six cities, including Christchurch. The first wash opened in Auckland in September last year, and since then more than 50,000 vehicles have used it. The car-wash was designed by Mr B. Maiden, now the managing director of Jetline Automatic Car Wash Systems, Ltd. The system is said to be unusual in that it can clean any type of car, and the
size of the vehicle makes no difference. All parts of the system adjust automatically to suit the car being washed. The machine is competitive with overseas machines on initial price, and is said to be cheaper to run. Examples of it have already been exported to Australia, and companies in the United States, Japan. South Africa. Taiwan and Guam have shown interest. The system will wash up to 200 cars an hour. In three minutes each vehicle is washed, dried, waxed, the tyres are scrubbed, and inside, the windows, carpets and doors are cleaned, the ashtrays emptied and the interior given a dose of air-freshener. Owners can watch the process as it happens.
