He farms with his father and is in the process of taking over the mainly undulating property of 482 acres, on which the stock includes 1920 Romney and Border Leicester Romney cross ewes, 400 hoggets, 20 stud cows, six bulls and 10 heifers. They also grow crops including 40 acres of Hilgendorf wheat. John’s record of offices include chairman of the Southland Young Farmers’ Club and of the local district committee and also a council delegate. L. Ross Wisnewski (Inglewood, Taranaki): This contestant is aged 25 years. He farms 316 acres of rolling volcanic country in partnership with his father. The stocking includes wintering 105 cows and heifers, 93 yearling bulls, seven heifers, 15 autumn calves, 500 ewes and 70 hoggets. A member of the Tarata Young Farmers’ Club, he has also been chairman, secretary and reporter and a delegate to the local district commit-
