“Give us the tools”
Agriculture had an enormous task before it to meet the demands which the New Zealand economy would make, Dr W. B. Healy, new president of the New Zealand Institute of Agricultural Science, said after his election.
Dr Healy is a senior research scientist with the
Soil Bureau of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. New Zealand’s agriculture would continue to expand to meet those demands provided it received national support and provided there was sufficient investment in the research and advisory specialists needed to ensure maximum production levels, modification and development of new products, and maximum efficiency in processing and marketing. “The Institute has within its ranks,” said Dr Healy, “most of the specialists who service this agricultural industry. It plays an important role in ensuring that the right men, properly trained, are available to the agricultural industry to meet the challenges that will inevitably arise. It also provides a forum for the interchange- of ideas and information on new developments in research and extension.”
