Gold search on Coast

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, July 28. Gold Mines of New Zealand, Ltd, a new company formed in Wellington this week, plans to begin a search for gold immediately. The company was formed because of the recent rise in gold prices, its spokesman on the West Coast (Mr F. K. Buckley) said today. Another reason was that the sister companies, Kanieri Gold, Ltd, and Amoil, had full programmes ahead of them and could not handle any more exploration work.

The new company was looking for gold anywhere in New Zealand, but the West Coast was high on its list. Mr Buckley also said that Kanieri Gold, Ltd, was investigating reopening the Alexander mine, in the Waiuta district.

The name for the new company was taken from an old firm which managed four dredges in the Greymouth and Hokitika districts.
