"ESTUARIES AND THEIR PROBLEMS” On August sth, 1972, ECOLOGY ACTION (CHCH) is organising a seminar on "Estuaries and their Prob lems." This seminar will be concerned with various New Zealand estuaries but particular emphasis will be placed on the local Christchurch estuary. The aim of the seminar Is to show the importance of estuaries for biological, economic and recreational purposes and the consequences of the demands man makes upon them. During the day there will be e series of short lectures by various speakers on specific aspects of the Estuaries. At night there will be a panel discussion. Various speakers will be invited on to the panel, but all speakers will be invited to be in the audience and will be available to answer further questions. The seminar has gained added importance because of the announcement of the Christchurch City Council’s plan to develop, and in the process dredge the Heathcote/Avon estuary. The mayor of Christchurch, Mr N. Pickering, will present the City Council’s proposals. Representatives of the Drainage Board and the Council have been invited on to the panel. Registration is $l.OO. Morning and afternocn tea is included in this. Lunch will be available from the Students’ Association. This is not included in registration. Further details will be available soon. The seminar will be held in Room SI, Ham University, Christchurch.
