Industrials and oils firmer
Share prices were firmer on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Trading was quite active and interest was centred on industrial issues and oils. Miners were quietly traded and made little movement.
In Sydney WoodsideBurmah captured the market interest again when the issue jumped 20c at the opening to 325 p. However, the price was reduced to 320 c and subsequently to 318 c on later profit-taking, for a net gain of 13c. In Melbourne Woodside rose to 320 c and closed at 316 c. Ampol Explorations failed to recapture its previous high activity and slipped 5c at 170 c. However, Santos and Magellan both rose 5c to 280 c and 195 c respectively, and A.A.O. was 10c higher at 130 c in Melbourne. Industrials returned to favour with B.H.P. rising 15c to close at 1250 c in Sydney and 1260 c in Melbourne. Philip Morris made a 10c gain to 1510 c, and Rothmans and British Tobacco were steady.
