Fertiliser sales up
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 21. Fertiliser sales have exceeded two million tons in a season for the first time. The Minister of Agiculture (Mr Carter) said today that sales of phosphatic fertiliser for 1971-72 were 2,009,000 tons, 28,000 tons more than the previous highest sales, in 1965-66. The figure was an increase of nearly 9 per cent on last year’s sales of 1,845,000 tons. Mr Carter said the sales for May indicated that 1972 might be a boom season for fertiliser, and sales in June were 51 per cent up on the same month last year. The sales reflected the returning confidence of farmers in the future of their industry, he said.
