Age benefits
Sir, —What we need is a social revolution to see justice done for the many social security beneficiaries who were unable in past years to join a staff superannuation; scheme and for many who were in one for only a short time. These people now in the 60-65 group schemed and saved in earlier years to educate their families and; save for retirement, and now! Mr Muldoon increases the benefit for married couples by. $4 and takes away $3 from the allowable income limit of $l3. This is $1 a week increase for thousands of New Zealanders who have budgeted over the years understanding that this was the amount allowed over and above social security and lodge benefit. Is Mr Muldoon going to allow the age lodge benefit to stand, or does he intend to include this in his meagre $lO a week allowable income? Yes, what we want is a social revolution by the neople in this age group. Grey! hairs and long-hairs should!
