COMMERCIAL Two new agencies for Quill, Morris
The acquisition by Quill, Morris, Ltd, of two important agencies for the Canterbury area was among the reasons why the directors were reasonably confident that the good results for the latest year could be maintained.
The chairman (Mr F. S. Taylor) told the annual meeting that the agencies were for White Horse Scotch whisky, including the high quality “Laird O’Logan” brand and for sole agency, B. Seppelt and Sons wines. Seppelts traditionally used all merchant marketing. One of the major factors
in last year’s good result was a further increase in sales of Jim Beam bourbon. Mr Taylor said that although competition from other bourbons is growing, the over all bourbon market is also growing and Quill Morris expects to maintain its major share of the market.
Wine sales, which have increased substantially for each of the past four years, showed a further gain of 20 per cent. By virtue of Quill Morris’ financial interest in the New Zealand wine industry, the company was in a good position to maintain its strength in the trade, said Mr Taylor. Private trade through the company’s drive-in selling area also increased by 11 per cent.
International Bottling Co, an associate company, increased profit and will pay a dividend.
