Riccarton Hotel
Dennis Smith and the Ansar are the resident band at the Riccarton Hotel. This quartet plays every Thursday and Saturday night at the hotel, and is one of the few hotel bands in Christchurch that plays every kind of music, that can be enjoyed by young and old. The group has now been playing at this hotel for over eighteen months and has enjoyed increasing popularity. They started on a casual one-night basis, but the patrons enjoyed their music
sq much that they now has e a regular gig. The members of the group are. Dennis Smith, vocalist and leader. Tony Miller, guitar. Don Hickman, bass guitar, and Murray Head. drummer. Domis Smith and the Ansar are not a fully professional group, but they still find time to practise’once every week. For the older patrons, the boys play anything from a Gypsy Tap to a Boston TwoStep, as well as playing modern popular numbers.
